Brilliant Tapestry of Women's Voices

Excerpt from Chapter 4 of :

Spices in the Melting Pot
Life Stories of Exeptional
South Asian Immigrant Women

"We need another feminist movement for the younger women. I don’t know who is going to start it. I don’t see any leadership in the society doing that for the younger women, because the feminists have declared success and gone home. Their job is done, and they are retired.

" How many women’s voices did you hear during the recent terrorist crisis as expert commentators? Zero. I think the American feminist movement has basically abandoned women, given up on them and declared success, prematurely, and said we made it because a few women have been appointed into professional positions.

" I don’t think that is enough. I mean, look at the CEOs of professional corporations. Look at the major politicians. Whom do we have? Have we ever had a woman president? How many media outlets do we have with women at the top or women as anchors? I think there is no hope, I don’t think in my lifetime it is going to change. It makes me very upset that in my lifetime I am not going to see the kind of life I want to have."
